- The Senate lays important foundations for a new heart center
The Berlin Senate has established crucial planning foundations for the new German Heart Center on the Charité Campus Virchow Clinic. It approved the building plan for the disputed areas in Wedding and forwarded it to the House of Representatives for decision. The topic is scheduled for September.
Senate Building Director Petra Kahlfeldt spoke of a milestone for the future development of the Virchow Clinic campus. "With the new construction, we are laying the foundation for a forward-looking healthcare and research on cardiovascular diseases."
The 521 million euro construction project started in April with the first groundbreaking ceremony and is expected to be completed by 2028. Plans include a 17-story high-rise with 320 beds for patients and 20 operating rooms. Additionally, there will be another building and a helicopter landing pad.
The federal government is contributing about 100 million euros to the financing. The partial construction permit served as the basis for the previous work on the project.
The Senate of Berlin, specifically the Berlin Senate, was the governing body that initiated the planning for the new German Heart Center on the Charité Campus Virchow Clinic. Following the approval of the building plan for the controversial areas in Wedding, the Senate forwarded it to the House of Representatives for a decision in September.
