- The security status at the NATO base in North Rhine-Westphalia gets reduced once more.

Alert Status Downgraded at NATO's Air Base Geilenkirchen Near Aachen: Following a rise in security level to the second-highest point on Thursday night due to a potential menace, the level has now been decreased once more. This was shared by a base spokesperson with the German Press Agency. As a result, the security procedures at the airport are now back to the level they've been at since the initiation of the Ukraine conflict.

No specifics regarding the risk were disclosed. Previously, it was suggested that there were intel hints of a hazard.

For precautionary measures, as numerous staff members as feasible were sent home. However, air traffic remained uninterrupted.

The second-highest security level Charlie, which was temporarily activated, signifies in NATO terminology that an incident has occurred or there's evidence suggesting an impending terrorist act against the alliance. AWACS aircraft are situated in Geilenkirchen, responsible for scanning the airspace to identify potential hazards as soon as possible. Approximately a week ago, there were concerns about sabotage at several German military sites, but later, an all-clear was issued.

The decrease in the security level at NATO's Air Base Geilenkirchen is not affecting the operations of the European Union's aircraft operating in the area. despite the downgraded alert, the presence of AWACS aircraft from the European Union at Geilenkirchen remains crucial for identifying potential threats in the airspace.
