Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of the Interior Cornelia Weigand (independent) hopes that the final report of the Investigative Committee** on the flood disaster in the Ahr Valley will provide insights for future protection of the district. She hopes that the report will comprehensively examine the causes of the flood disaster, she told us in response to our inquiry. "It will take time to analyze the document thoroughly." The approximately 2,100-page report on the deadly 2021 catastrophe was published in the morning.

"Of course, I hope to gain insights from this for our future work and the protection of our district," said Weigand. The final parliamentary debate in mid-September is also important for the district. She will participate as a guest.

The final report, with its detailed examination of the causes of the flood disaster, could serve as a basis for implementation of robust protection against disasters in the future. Weigand's attendance at the parliamentary debate in September will provide an opportunity to discuss and strategize about these new findings for the district's future safety.
