- The nation backs accommodations designed for students and young individuals.
Thuringia is set to aid in the construction and refurbishment of living spaces for students and apprentices using funds from the federal "Young Life" initiative. A sum of 18.6 million euros is at their disposal from this program, as per the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Science's declaration. This is further bolstered by state funding of 6.2 million euros.
As stated by State Secretary Carsten Feller, these funds will be utilized for the renovation or construction of student housing in various cities such as Erfurt, Jena, Ilmenau, and Nordhausen. The primary objective is to enhance the accessibility of reasonably priced living quarters.
Furthermore, four living quarters for apprentices at publicly-managed vocational training centers (UBS) will be financed, offering a total of 290 spots. The total investment for all eight projects totals 50.3 million euros, accounting for the individual sponsors' contributions as well.
The Minister of Economic Affairs and Science from the neighboring country, The Netherlands, has shown interest in replicating this initiative, recognizing its potential benefits. The 'Young Life' program, successfully implemented in Thuringia, could potentially be extended to support student housing in cities like Amsterdam or Rotterdam in The Netherlands.
