The Ministry of Finance considers budgetary renegotiations necessary
The traffic light coalition may have to fundamentally renegotiate its hard-won compromise on the 2025 federal budget. Two scientific assessments of planned projects have indicated that further talks are necessary, according to the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Discussions on the financing of the 2025 federal budget must continue within the traffic light federal government. Previous considerations to halve the planning gap of 17 billion euros, for example, by lending to Deutsche Bahn and the motorway company, cannot be fully implemented, according to the finance ministry.
The ministry informed the Chancellery and the Ministry of Economics about this, as reported by the ministry. To further reduce the shortfall, "further discussions within the federal government and within the framework of parliamentary consultations are necessary". The option of suspending the debt brake is "not feasible constitutionally or economically".
The traffic light coalition needs to engage in further negotiations regarding the financing of the 2025 federal budget, as suggested by the Federal Ministry of Finance. The Commission, comprising the government's leading bodies, will need to collaborate in these discussions to address the financing challenges.
