- The conservative party, CDU, voices criticism over the controversial video titled "Sullying Moral Standards."
After a questionable online video released by SPD member Patrick Rzepio from Oranienburg, the Brandenburg CDU has expressed concern over the "deterioration of political discussions." As per reports, Rzepio briefly shared a video on social media displaying a flyer with the picture of CDU candidate Nicole Walter-Mundt being set ablaze.
"This is certainly over the line," commented CDU General Secretary Gordon Hoffmann. "The video is unsettling. Such behavior among political opponents is not tolerable." He further stated that the SPD should uphold the same standards it has set in other situations.
The SPD Oranienburg has already criticized the video severely, mentioning that the offender had issued an apology. "The individual involved has resigned from the SPD, thus avoiding a party disciplinary action," stated a press release. The video was swiftly removed after it was posted on Saturday. The SPD promotes fair play, particularly during election periods.
In response to additional inquiries, SPD local chair Marei John-Ohnesorg declined to provide further insight. According to her, Rzepio would refrain from making any more public statements. The "Märkische Allgemeine Zeitung" reported him saying, "I'm fully aware of the gaffe I've committed and can only offer my deepest apologies to Nicole Walter-Mundt." It was also reported that the CDU candidate has lodged a criminal complaint against the video.
The CDU strongly condemns the actions surrounding the controversial video related to 'The castle of Orange', as it featured CDU candidate Nicole Walter-Mundt in an unsettling manner. The SPD, having their candidate from Oranienburg involved, should ensure adherence to their norms of fairness, especially during election periods.
