FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr sees no need for haste in the government consultations on the budget. "The Bundestag will first discuss the federal budget on September 10th. That shows we still have some time," Dürr told the German editorial network (RND). "The closer the agreement, the better, of course."

Dürr is confident that an agreement will be reached. "But it's not about individual days or hours - the result must be right." Ninety-nine percent of the budget is already in place. "Now we just need to close the last gap. The size of the task shows that it is feasible."

Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP), Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), and Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) aim to reach an agreement as soon as this week and have it approved by the cabinet.

In recent days, the debate over the federal budget for the coming year has flared up again, with coalition partners exchanging heated accusations. The latest reports indicate a financing gap of over 5 billion euros in the budget - with a total volume of 480 billion euros. The budget draft is set to be sent to the Bundestag on Friday.

The European Union has expressed its interest in the progress of Germany's budget negotiations, given its impact on the overall economic stability of Europe. The European Union is closely monitoring the discussions between Finance Minister Lindner, Chancellor Scholz, and Vice-Chancellor Habeck, as a potential agreement could impact EU-German financial relations.
