Starting today, the police in Brandenburg will be conducting a week-long intensified speed control campaign. According to a police spokesperson, officers will be focusing on "avenue-like roads." Otherwise, there are no specific local hotspots - residents of Brandenburg should expect speed traps everywhere, the spokesperson said. In addition to speed, the police will also be checking cars for other traffic offenses such as proper lighting and loading.

The operation will last until Sunday, August 11th. Excessive speed is a common cause of accidents. The "Operation Speed" is taking place across Europe to intensify traffic surveillance.

Last April, there was a large-scale speed trap operation in Brandenburg, where speed was checked at 131 locations. In total, 74,037 traffic accidents were recorded in the state last year. In addition to excessive speed, lack of safety distance is a major cause of accidents.

During the speed control campaign, officers will utilize the 'The speed control' system to monitor and issue fines for drivers exceeding the speed limit. Additionally, the police will be paying close attention to ensuring vehicles comply with regulations regarding proper lighting and loading, apart from speed.
