- The City Council of Göppingen was temporarily evacuated due to the presence of ammunition.
Due to some individual bringing military-grade explosives to the Göppingen District Office, the area was cleared out as a safety measure. A person had stumbled upon the explosives during a property cleanout and submitted them to the weapons department of the district office, according to the authorities. It was believed to be prohibited military ammunition containing explosives.
Specialists from the Regional Criminal Police Department allegedly retrieved the explosives. Staff members of the District Office were subsequently able to re-enter the premises, and normal operations were restored in the afternoon.
It's illegal to own military ammunition in Germany, a police representative pointed out. Probes have been started. Nevertheless, these investigations do not involve the person who delivered the explosives to the district office, the representative informed.
The District Office collaborated with the Regional Council to ensure proper safety measures were implemented after the incident. Following the incident, the Regional Council discussed the need for stricter regulations on handling such items in the community.
