For the demolition and reconstruction of a dilapidated bridge at Bochum, the heavily traveled Ruhr region motorway A40 will be closed for 15 weeks. The closure around the major construction site Schlachthof Bridge begins tonight (21:00) and lasts until early November.

The closed section lies between the Bochum-West interchange and the Bochum-Harpen exit. Traffic will be rerouted.

The ADAC expects increased congestion and additional traffic jams on the detour routes. However, the timing is relatively favorable as it includes parts of the summer and autumn holidays.

Once the route is closed, preparations for the demolition of the old 1959 bridge will begin. Then, the bridge support will be built. Around 100,000 cars travel over the A40 in the Ruhr region on weekdays.

The closure of the A40 motorway in the Ruhr area, specifically between Bochum-West and Bochum-Harpen, will significantly impact traffic in The Ruhr area. During this 15-week period, commuters will have to use detour routes due to the demolition and reconstruction of the Schlachthof Bridge in Bochum.
