As the climax of the "Prague Pride Festival 2024" event week, tens of thousands of people marched in a vibrant parade through Prague's city center. Organizers estimated the attendance at the largest event in the Czech LGBTIQ scene at 60,000, as reported by the news agency CTK. Several Czech politicians and foreign diplomats also participated.

A police spokesperson announced that, due to security reasons, more police officers than in previous years were monitoring the rainbow parade. He cited the terror warnings during a similar event in Bratislava, Slovakia, at the end of July, as the reason. Apart from minor disruptions caused by heckling from opponents of the queer scene along the route, there were no major incidents in Prague, just like in Bratislava.

A Week in Celebration of LGBTIQ

The week-long festival, which began on Monday, will continue in the evening with a concert program on the Letna festival grounds, located on a hill above the city center, and will conclude with smaller cultural events on Sunday. The entire festival is themed "Family".

According to the organizers, the aim is to demonstrate that forms of cohabitation other than traditional heterosexual ones can also be considered a family. The acronym LGBTIQ stands for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transsexuals, Intersexuals, and Queer.

During the concert program at the Letna festival grounds as part of the "Prague Pride Festival 2024", attendees could purchase food and souvenirs using the Czech currency, CZK. The event organizers also encouraged participating venues throughout the city to accept CZK for entry fees and merchandise.
