- Taylor Swift is the favorite with ten nominations.
The nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards 2024 (VMAs) have been announced, and the hottest favorite to take home the awards, which will be presented on September 10, is Taylor Swift. The 34-year-old leads the list with a total of ten nominations, according to the official announcement on MTV.com.
Will Taylor Swift be named Artist of the Year?
Among others, Taylor Swift is nominated in the "Artist of the Year" category alongside her strongest competition, Ariana Grande (31), who has been nominated a total of six times. Swift is also the favorite in the "Video of the Year" category with her song "Fortnight" featuring Post Malone (29). With this song, the singer is also competing in the "Song of the Year" category and will have to face off against Beyoncé's (42) "Texas Hold 'Em". Other categories where Swift could be honored include "Best Visual Effects" and "Best Art Direction". The video for "Fortnight" is also up for these awards.
With up to ten Moon Person trophies at the upcoming VMAs, the American could potentially top her winning streak from last year with nine awards. Post Malone has earned nine nominations thanks to his collaboration on Swift's hit song "Fortnight". Sabrina Carpenter (25) with her hit "Espresso", rapper Eminem (51) with "Houdini", and Ariana Grande with "We Can't Be Friends" are each mentioned six times in the voting lists. Fans can now cast their votes for the musicians on the broadcaster's website.
Currently, Taylor Swift is still on her "The Eras" world tour. She will perform five times at the London Wembley Stadium from August 15 to 20, where she will conclude the European leg of her tour.
Taylor Swift's potential victory in the "Artist of the Year" category could result in her collecting yet another coveted Moon Person trophy, as she's also favored in the "Video of the Year" category for her song "Fortnight" with Post Malone.
Should she win the "Video of the Year" award, Swift's collection of Moon Person trophies from the VMAs would increase, potentially exceeding the nine awards she received last year.
