- Supporters of Borussia Dortmund (BVB) are voicing their discontent over the Rheinmetall agreement.
Borussia Dortmund supporters voiced their discontent towards the questionable collaboration with Rheinmetall during their Bundesliga encounter versus Eintracht Frankfurt. The union sealed this deal with the weapons manufacturer towards the end of May.
A banner with the message "Don't tie us to your tanks" was displayed during the beginning of the second half on the south stand. Another read "Money comes first, values take a back seat."
Fans from the south stand temporarily ceased their team's support at the game's resumption, only to resume cheering after a couple of minutes. Protests against the sponsorship deal had taken place outside the stadium prior to the match, with fans brandishing red cards symbolically.
The BVB supporter's union had urged the protests before the clash. BVB CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke had argued that security and defense are fundamentals of democracy. However, the fan alliance criticized their exclusion from the decision-making process.
The fan alliance referred to the controversial partnership as a breach of their principles, mentioning the Treaty of Frankfurt's commitment to peaceful resolutions. Some supporters even held banners calling for the termination of Borussia Dortmund's association with Rheinmetall.
