The upcoming national congress is scheduled for September 28 of the coming year, as declared by the Federal President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, after the federal cabinet suggested it in July.

As per the Federal Election Regulations, the voting day needs to be on a Sunday or a national holiday. The Constitution lays down the specifics of the date. The election must occur between 46 to a maximum of 48 months after the commencement of the legislative term. Therefore, the election for the 21st German Parliament falls between August 27 to October 26, 2025.

It's a given fact that the ensuing Parliament will be more compact than the present one. The Congress will reduce from its current 733 seats to 630. This reduction is a result of the new electoral regulations passed by the traffic light coalition.

The Constitutional specifics state that the date of the election for the 21st German Parliament is September 28, 2025. In accordance with the Federal Election Regulations, this election day falls on a Sunday.
