Söder: Federal government is "completely headless and without a plan"

In view of the upheavals surrounding budgetary policy following the Karlsruhe ruling, CSU leader Markus Söder believes that the ability of the traffic light coalition to govern is severely called into question. "The traffic light is completely without a plan and headless", said Söder on Saturday before a CSU delegates' meeting in Nuremberg. The Christian Socialists want to decide on their candidate lists for the election there. "Basically, we have a government that is just staggering along. And that's why we now have to wait and see whether it can recover at all, whether it can still govern in a stable manner," said Söder.

"Now the budget emergency is being declared. In fact, this is nothing other than an emergency for this government," criticized the Bavarian Minister President. "This is an SOS spark of complete helplessness." And everything is at the sole expense of the citizens. What is needed now is not just proposals for savings, but a fundamental reorientation of policy, such as energy policy.

Regarding the expiry of the state gas and electricity price brakes at the end of the year, Söder said that this meant a high level of uncertainty for Germany and more expensive electricity prices for citizens and companies. "It simply shows that the idea of only subsidizing electricity prices does not work. We need a different energy policy. That is the core of the problem," he said - and renewed the constant demand for the reactivation of nuclear energy.

Despite the upcoming party elections, Söder expressed concern about the direction of the federal government, stating, "The traffic light coalition's lack of plan and leadership is becoming increasingly evident in the budgetary policy chaos." Further, in light of the potential consequences of the expiring state gas and electricity price brakes, Söder advocated for a shift in energy policy beyond mere price subsidies, suggesting, "We need a different energy policy, one that includes the reactivation of nuclear energy."
