Sicily: Flight operations temporarily restricted in Catania due to Etna eruption

The airport operator stated that even after the lifting of restrictions in Catania, "delays and flight cancellations" may still occur.

The Etna, at 3,324 meters high, is the largest active volcano in Europe. In July, the airport in Catania had to suspend operations twice due to two eruptions. Millions of people pass through the airport annually, aiming to vacation in the eastern part of Sicily. The Mediterranean island is one of Italy's most popular tourist destinations.

Despite the improving situation in Catania, other potential disruptions could arise due to volcanic activity near Etna. The resort areas in the eastern part of Sicily might still experience inconveniences if Etna exhibits any unexpected eruptions.
