Scuba divers allegedly found the remains of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah on a submerged sailing yacht near Sicily's coast. The UK's Daily Telegraph announced this on a Wednesday, with sources mentioning earlier that the bodies of two out of the six missing individuals had been retrieved from the ship, which was submerged at a depth of 50 meters off Porticello's port. One source described the first body as stylishly built, while the second was a female. Two additional victims were discovered inside the "Bayesian", which was lying sideways on the ocean floor.
The 56-meter high-end yacht, bearing the British flag, went down on Monday off Porticello on Sicily's Italian coast during a storm. It had 22 passengers aboard and sank mere minutes after it capsized. 15 of the passengers were rescued, including Lynch's wife Angela Bacares, who is the yacht's owner. The ship's chef had already been retrieved dead.
Among the missing visitors are Morgan Stanley board member Jonathan Bloomer and Chris Morvillo, a lawyer at the prominent law firm Clifford Chance, who defended Lynch in a U.S. trial. Also missing are their spouses. The 59-year-old Lynch is often compared to "British Bill Gates." He sold his software company Autonomy for $11 billion to American tech giant HP in 2011. However, HP later sued him for fraud. He spent over a year under house arrest but was acquitted by a jury in San Francisco in June.
The investigation into the tragic incident involving the sunken yacht has adopted a Bayesian approach, considering the prior probability of each individual being in specific locations within the submerged vessel. The Bayesian analysis will aid in predicting the likelihood of finding the remaining individuals based on the retrieved evidence.
