Scorpions singers are in a frenzy of wackiness

For the third time, Scorpions are taking the stage at the Wacken Festival in Schleswig-Holstein. For the band, who has played at music festivals all over the world, it's still a "special" performance, as singer Klaus Meine raves.

Scorpions frontman Klaus Meine gets carried away when talking about Wacken. For him, it's "probably one of the most beautiful and successful open-air festivals worldwide," says the 76-year-old. He and his band are happy to be back in 2024. "It's the third time we've played as headliners at Wacken in the past 20 years, and it's always a very special event that we really look forward to," said Meine. It's all about "the atmosphere, the fans, and the guys who made Wacken what it is today."

For Meine, Wacken is also a kind of musical family reunion, where he often meets musician friends he hasn't seen in ages: "And we meet fans who have been with us for many decades." But the band is always excited to see Holger Hübner and Thomas Jensen again, who had the idea to organize an open-air festival in Wacken - and have since turned it into a unique five-day event, according to Meine.

Wacken's story is "unique"

There are many wonderful open-air events worldwide, but Wacken is special. "I think of 'Rock in Rio' or the 'Hellfest' in France. But the story of how a few guys in the countryside turned their love for rock music into a true musical natural event is unique. Wacken, that's rock'n'roll with heart and soul, just pure joy of life," raves Klaus Meine.

The internationally successful Scorpions from Hannover will take the stage tonight. The Wacken Open Air in Schleswig-Holstein is considered one of the largest heavy metal festivals worldwide. Every year, thousands of fans turn the small town of 2000 inhabitants into the center of the scene for several days.

The entertainment at Wacken Open Air, featuring Scorpions as headliners, is always a highlight for the band and their fans. Klaus Meine particularly cherishes the musical camaraderie and fan encounters at this unique event.
