Scholz presents donation to Ukrainian twin city
Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will take part in a handover of vehicles and other donations to Teltow's Ukrainian twin town on Thursday. The Brandenburg town of Teltow, south of Berlin, wants to give its twin town Khotyn various vehicles worth a total of almost 200,000 euros, including a fire engine, a bus and a truck. The city also received federal funding for this. At the meeting, Scholz spoke with Teltow's mayor Thomas Schmidt (SPD) and the mayor of Khotyn, Andriy Dranchuk.
According to the city of Teltow, the city of Khotyn has already been the target of two drone attacks. That is why there is a lot of damage to houses there. Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, which began last year, is continuing. According to information from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development last year, there are around 80 partnerships between German and Ukrainian cities and municipalities, including Berlin and Kiev. The German government wants to double the budget for military aid to Ukraine in the coming year.
Despite the ongoing conflicts due to Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, the twin cities of Teltow and Khotyn have managed to maintain their partnership. The municipalities have faced challenges, with Khotyn experiencing damage from drone attacks.
