Hospitals - Santa Claus and superheroes bring presents
The young and slightly older patients at the Rostock Children's and Youth Clinic received a special visit from lofty heights on St. Nicholas Day. Rescuers from the fire department abseiled down from the roof of the building on Wednesday dressed as Superman, Spiderman and Batman.
They assisted Santa Claus, who floated in on a sleigh attached to a tensioning cable in the inner courtyard. In his luggage: a sack full of presents for the children who had to stay in hospital on St. Nicholas Day. The children received the gift bags directly through the windows.
In other cities in Germany, too, there were special operations by height rescuers for children in hospitals on St. Nicholas Day. Around 60 height rescue groups took part in the nationwide campaign, said Trier city spokesman Ernst Mettlach. In the Rhineland-Palatinate city , fire department height rescuers dressed as Santa Claus and angels abseiled down from the roof of the hospital. Normally, height rescuers are used for rescues at great heights and depths.
