Rising water levels on the Rhine, Moselle and Saar
The water levels on the Rhine, Moselle and Saar are expected to rise further due to the persistent rain. For the Middle Rhine, the flood reporting service of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Office for the Environment registered a water level of 5.42 meters at the Koblenz gauge on Saturday morning, with a rising trend. By Sunday evening, a rise to between 5.60 and 6.20 meters was possible. The reported height had already been exceeded on Friday at 5.00 meters. A level of 4.97 meters was recorded at the Kaub gauge on Saturday morning. A rise to up to 5.35 meters cannot be ruled out by Sunday morning.
The water is also rising on the Moselle due to the persistent rain. According to the flood information service, a level of 6.57 meters was recorded at the Trier gauge on Saturday morning. A maximum level of 6.80 to 7.50 meters is forecast for Sunday afternoon. Later on Sunday, the water levels may initially fall, but a renewed rise at the beginning of the week cannot be ruled out.
The water level at the Fremersdorf gauge on the Saar was 3.27 meters on Saturday morning. According to the information, water levels are expected to rise slightly until Sunday morning. However, as things stand at present, the reported level of 3.90 meters is unlikely to be exceeded.
The ongoing storm conditions are contributing to the rising water levels in the region. A severe storm warning has been issued for areas along the Rhine, Moselle, and Saar due to the possibility of heavy rain and flooding. The current weather forecast predicts a storm surge that could raise water levels even higher.
