- Rioters attack another British migrant shelter
Anti-Muslim riots in Britain following the Southport bloodshed have seen another asylum seeker accommodation targeted by troublemakers. A mob threw objects at a hotel in Tamworth, northeast of Birmingham, according to Sky News.
Social media clips showed a part of the building on fire, but this has not been officially confirmed. The police described the actions as "violent criminal acts," with one officer injured.
Days of violence
The ongoing violence erupted after three girls were stabbed and eight other children and two adults were injured, some seriously, in the northwest English town of Southport on Monday. Social media rumors suggested the suspect was a Muslim migrant. Police stressed that the 17-year-old suspect was born in Britain and his parents are from Rwanda.
In the north English town of Rotherham, an asylum seeker accommodation was also severely attacked: troublemakers threw windows, assaulted police officers, and partially entered the building. Ten officers were injured.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer vowed tough action. He blamed far-right hooligans for the riots, saying they would face just punishment. Starmer has been in office for only a month.
Police statement on Tamworth
The police are investigating the violent incident in Tamworth, where an asylum seeker hotel was targeted, as part of the escalating series of [Other] actions against refugee accommodations. The statement affirmed that the incident was a result of criminal behavior, causing damage and injuring an officer.
