Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee discloses a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
"She revealed that her medical professionals have confirmed her pancreatic cancer diagnosis. Currently, she's receiving treatment to combat this illness that affects many Americans annually. They've designed the most effective strategy for her particular disease, and even though the journey ahead won't be simple, she's certain that God will provide her with the strength she needs.
This 15-term congresswoman, who had previously made an attempt to become the mayor of Houston last year, had to confront a challenger from a former congressional intern this year for the 18th Congressional District. She won with 60% of the votes received.
Writing to her constituents on Sunday, Jackson Lee stated, "As I proceed with my treatments, it's probable that I'll be sporadically absent from Congress, but take comfort in knowing that my office will keep providing you with the essential services you're dependent on.
She mentioned that she's determined to maintain communication with congressional leadership and be available for essential legislative votes for the wellbeing and safety of the American people.
"By God's mercy, I'll be back to my usual strength soon again," she mentioned."
