Quavo and Vice President Kamala Harris appear on stage at the Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia on Tuesday, June 18, to mark National Gun Violence Awareness Month.

Quavo organizes an anti-firearm violence meeting alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, a commemoration held on the birthday of his late nephew Takeoff.

On Tuesday, marking what would've been Takeoff's 30th birthday, Quavo participated in the inaugural Rocket Foundation Summit, partnering with US Vice President Kamala Harris and the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

During the event, Quavo opened up to journalists about his efforts to transform sorrow into success.

Unfortunately, in 2022, Takeoff was fatally shot at a private gathering in Houston, Texas, leaving him at just 28 years old.

Quavo poignantly commented, "My nephew is a legend. He died for a cause, and we're going to change the world for him now."

As part of the rap trio Migos, Quavo and Takeoff, along with Offset, left an indelible mark on the music industry. Quavo confessed he felt overwhelmed on Tuesday, but is resolute about reducing gun-related incidents.

His aim, he declared, is "just to change lives, affect our community."

"We need to start here in Atlanta," he stressed. "We need to start here with the culture and make sure we have resources available."

The initiative involves awarding numerous $20,000 grants to organizations who share the vision of minimizing gun violence.

At the summit, Harris noted, "We have more ground to cover, but there's positive progress being made, and we can't let anyone discourage us from believing we can make a difference."

She went on to reveal that AmeriCorps is joining forces with the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention to form the "Safer America Network." This initiative aims to combat gun violence by providing support to at-risk youth.

Last year, Quavo paid a visit to Washington, DC, where he dialogued with congress members about preventing gun violence. This marked the beginning of discussions with Harris, who collaborated with the rapper on Tuesday as she continues her efforts during National Gun Violence Awareness Month.

The collaboration announced on Tuesday will enlist AmeriCorps volunteers and members to work alongside schools and mental health professionals. The collaboration aims to educate schools and families about trauma-informed care, thereby preventing violence before it starts and increasing resources for at-risk youth.

Emphasizing the gravity of the issue, Harris stated, "Gun violence demands everyone's attention in terms of addressing it, and there are numerous ways to go about it. This also involves what we need to do during election periods."

She concluded, "Too many people – I'd call them cowards – have been peddling misinformation, suggesting that one is either pro-Second Amendment or wants to snatch everyone's guns. That's a hoax. I'm all for the Second Amendment."
