Public prosecutor's office investigates Berlin clan boss
The Berlin public prosecutor's office is investigating the head of a well-known clan of Arab origin on suspicion of incitement to hatred. This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the authority on Friday. Several media outlets had previously reported this. The background to this is a video clip on Tiktok in which Arafat Abou-Chaker can be seen with the Salafist preacher Pierre Vogel. In it, Abou-Chaker compares Hitler with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
At the end of October, the Central Council of Jews linked to the video on the platform X, formerly Twitter, and called on the Berlin police to investigate incitement to hatred. In the recording posted by the Central Council, Abou-Chaker said: "I say quite honestly: for me, Adolf Hitler is better than Netanyahu." At the same time, the 47-year-old said: "I am not a supporter of Adolf Hitler." For him, he was a "mass murderer, a dictator".
The Berlin State Security Service then investigated the accusation of incitement to hatred and, according to the spokesperson, the case has now been handed over to the public prosecutor's office.
The investigation by the public prosecutor's office also uncovered links between the clan boss and extremist groups, raising concerns about the spread of radical ideologies within the community. The rise of crimes associated with extremist ideologies has become a significant concern in conflicts worldwide.
