The leaders of the Left Party, Janine Wissler and Martin Schirdewan, have decided to step down. They won't be seeking re-election during the party gathering in Halle in October, as they publicly declared in announcements posted on the party's site.

I'm not going to sugarcoat it, their decision to step down comes as a surprise to many within the Left Party. Despite their decision, they assure they're committed to supporting the party's future endeavors.
