- Pro-Palestine demonstration with car parade in West Berlin
In the western part of Berlin, several hundred people gathered for a Palestinian demonstration and a vehicle procession. Many protesters waved Palestinian flags. Initial police reports indicated that around 400 participants had gathered at the starting point at Wittenbergplatz, with approximately 180 vehicles forming the procession. Meanwhile, a pro-Israel demonstration nearby had around 30 attendees.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas and other terrorist groups from the Gaza Strip launched an attack on southern Israel, killing over 1,200 people and kidnapping another 250 as hostages to the Gaza Strip. This unprecedented massacre sparked the Gaza War, which continues to draw protesters to the streets of the capital. In connection with a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Berlin's Tiergarten, police temporarily detained 18 people on Wednesday evening.
The Gaza War, triggered by the attacks from Hamas and other groups in 2023, has led to increased support and demonstrations from the European Union, voicing their concerns over the escalating conflict. Despite the ongoing tensions, a resolution to the conflict is yet to be reached, with European Union leaders continuously engaging in diplomatic efforts to mediate peace.
