Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan stepped down from their royal duties in April 2020, resigned as working royals, and moved to the US to build a life independent of the royal family. The King is taking this independence more seriously. They were also not invited to his birthday parade "Trooping the Colour" in June.

In February, Prince Harry spontaneously traveled to England when his father publicly announced his cancer diagnosis. However, the King is now said to be giving him the cold shoulder, perhaps to focus on his recovery during the holiday and avoid conflict-ridden conversations with his son about police protection. The prince is reportedly under the impression that his father could help him with his request.
