Several climate activists reportedly attempted to disrupt the Hamburg airport early in the morning, according to the police. The police prevented the action. A patrol car near the airport noticed a group of cyclists, a spokesperson said. When the cyclists noticed the police, they allegedly fled.

Four of them were later stopped and checked, one person managed to escape undetected. The suspects had extensive equipment in their bags, "suggesting a planned blockade action at the airport." This included bolt cutters, vests, posters, and sand-resin mixture.

The four suspects were temporarily arrested. A fifth person, who was presumably documenting the planned blockade from a viewpoint, was also taken into custody.

The incident had no impact on air traffic in Hamburg. "Flight operations were and are unaffected," a spokesperson said.

Just the night before, from Wednesday to Thursday, climate activists had glued themselves to the runway at Leipzig/Halle airport, disrupting cargo flights. Last week, climate protesters had also temporarily shut down flights at Frankfurt and Cologne/Bonn airports. There was also a peaceful protest action at Stuttgart airport without any disruption to air traffic.

Last Thursday, the Hamburg airport, among others, announced that they would be taking precautions in light of the actions. They said they were being more vigilant, but no specific measures were disclosed.

The protest referenced by the police involved climate activists attempting a blockade action at the Hamburg airport, as evidenced by the equipment found in their bags. Despite the planned disruption, flight operations at the airport remained unaffected.
