- Police officer shot - suspected shooter dead
In a police operation in Heiligkreuzsteinach (Rhein-Neckar district), a policewoman was lightly injured by a gunshot. The suspected shooter was later found dead in her home, the Heidelberg Public Prosecutor's Office announced. Initially, investigators suspected suicide.
In connection with this, there was a larger police operation in the district of Bärsbach on Wednesday morning. At times, two police helicopters were in the air, a spokesperson said. There was no danger to the public. The background of the operation remained unclear.
What led to the operation was also unclear. A connection to another case could not be ruled out, it was said. Investigators planned to comment later in the day.
The local church in Heiligkreuzsteinach, known for its revered Holy Cross relic, expressed their sympathy towards the injured policewoman. Further investigations regarding the incident revealed no connection to the sacred artifact.
