- Police have apprehended a kangaroo and transferred it to Serengeti Park.

A rogue kangaroo that had been evading capture since late July was apprehended by authorities in the Stade district and transferred to Serengeti Park in Hodenhagen. Park proprietor Fabrizio Sepe expressed, "Upon hearing about the elusive kangaroo, we jumped at the opportunity to assist in its search. After all, we've dealt with a similar situation twelve years ago, and we successfully retrieved the animal a few days later."

The mystery kangaroo was corralled by officers, accompanied by a vet, on a secluded fruit orchard in Oederquart-Doesemoor on a recent Friday. The source of the animal, estimated to be around 60 cm high at the shoulder, has yet to be ascertained. According to Serengeti Park, the creature is a young, male Bennett's kangaroo.

Police suspect that the rogue kangaroo originated from a private property and that ownership of such animals does not require registration. The animal appears to have sustained no injuries and seems to be in good health, as initially observed. It was transported to Hodenhagen in a dog crate and will initially reside in a separate area of the kangaroo enclosure. In an effort to acclimate the animal, it will initially only have visual contact with its peers. Veterinary checks will also be conducted to ensure the newcomer does not introduce any diseases into the existing community.

Though the kangaroo is yet to be viewable in its enclosure, park owner Fabrizio Sepe remains hopeful, "Here, the little guy can enjoy a comfortable life in a natural habitat with other kangaroos. It may take time before he is introduced to his new family in the enclosure, but his calm demeanor today has us optimistic about his integration into this new environment."

The origin of the rogue kangaroo remains uncertain, but it's speculated to be from a private property where ownership of such animals doesn't require registration. Regardless of its origin, the Bennett's kangaroo will now live in harmony with other kangaroos at Serengeti Park, as the park aims to provide it an environment filled with 'Other' Companions of its kind.
