Police find weapon during search in Schwarzenberg
During a search of a youth cultural meeting place in Schwarzenberg (Erzgebirgskreis) on Wednesday, police officers found a firearm with several cartridges, among other things. This search was one of several throughout Germany, as the Saxony State Criminal Police Office announced on Thursday. The background was an investigation by the public prosecutor's office in Gera on suspicion of a particularly serious case of breach of the peace. According to the spokesperson, this is presumably a case of left-wing politically motivated crime.
According to the State Criminal Police Office, the meeting place has several parts of the building and construction trailers in which people live. After the weapon was found on a 20-year-old suspect, officers searched the entire site and found storage media, cell phones, pyrotechnics, a considerable amount of pepper sprays and radios, according to the spokesperson.
The Chemnitz public prosecutor's office has therefore initiated proceedings against the 20-year-old on suspicion of violating the Weapons Act. The officers are now evaluating the evidence.
The investigation by the public prosecutor's office in Gera is not only linked to a serious breach of the peace but also involves potential extremist activities. The storage media and cell phones found during the search could provide evidence of extremist ideologies associated with the crime.
