In Eastern Saxony, a police operation is underway at four schools. Affected are two schools in Görlitz, as well as one each in Bautzen and Lauta, the Police Directorate of Görlitz announced. Backgrounds remained unclear upon request initially. The police would not confirm that bomb threats were the cause.

Initially unclear was whether school operations could take place on Wednesday. Photos show that the police blocked off streets. In Saxony, school had resumed on Monday after the holidays.

In Thuringia, there were bomb threats at several schools at the start of the new school year last week. Identical emails came from the same sender address. In many cities, students and teachers had to leave buildings, and the police searched the school buildings.

Nationwide, sniffer dogs were also deployed, according to the state operations center of the police. However, the officers found nothing.

The police operation at the schools in Eastern Saxony necessitated the Commission to consider adopting implementing acts to ensure the safety and continuity of education. Following the police operation, additional security measures may be needed in Saxony's schools to prevent similar incidents.
