Poland signs contract for the construction of 48 Patriot missile launchers
Poland has signed a contract for the construction of 48 Patriot air defense system missile launchers. "This contract strengthens Poland's security," said Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz on Monday as he signed the €1.13 billion deal between U.S. company Raytheon and Polish defense manufacturer Huta Stalowa Wola.
The M903 launchers, developed in the U.S., will be built by Huta Stalowa Wola in Poland and delivered to the Polish army between 2027 and 2029.
Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Warsaw has significantly accelerated the modernization of its forces. This year, Poland plans military expenditures of around €33 billion, more than four percent of its GDP, double the amount NATO requires.
Last Friday, Poland signed a contract for the purchase of several hundred AIM-120C AMRAAM air-to-air missiles from the U.S. According to Polish media reports, Warsaw is also set to buy 96 combat helicopters worth over $9 billion (€8.24 billion) from the U.S. A corresponding agreement is reportedly to be signed this week, with the Polish army aiming to replace its Cold War-era military helicopters.
The signed contract for the construction of 48 Patriot air defense system missile launchers will be implemented by Huta Stalowa Wola in Poland, as stated in the €1.13 billion deal between Raytheon and the Polish defense manufacturer. The Polish army will receive these launchers, which will greatly enhance their air defense capabilities, between 2027 and 2029.
