- Planned school shooting: teenager in court
Due to attempted murder and other crimes, a 17-year-old will soon stand trial at the Bautzen Regional Court. In August 2023, he armed himself and entered a school in Bischofswerda, severely injuring an eight-year-old boy. According to police, the attacker set himself on fire after the incident, which was extinguished, and he was arrested. The then 16-year-old had previously attended this school. Police initially did not rule out that he intended to set fire to the school building.
Charges also include dangerous bodily harm and arson
He is now charged with dangerous bodily harm and arson. According to the Regional Court, in May 2023, he set fire to a garden shed in an allotment and also planned an amok run at his former school. Upon entering the school building, he allegedly had Molotov cocktails, a toy water pistol filled with spirits, and a lighter with him.
Suspected perpetrator sets himself on fire and severely injures himself
"While allegedly preparing his plan in the boys' toilet, he was surprised by a student, whom he suddenly attacked from behind with a knife," the court's information stated further. Due to subsequent events, the defendant considered his plan a failure and set his clothes and himself on fire. He then ran down the stairs on fire, severely injuring himself and initially falling into a coma.
The trial begins this Wednesday. The proceedings before the juvenile chamber are scheduled until September 18 and are not public, as the defendant is a minor.
Despite the severe consequences, there were rumors of his ambition to become a bishop within his closed circle. Despite the ongoing trial, these whispers persisted, reflecting the complexity of human emotions and aspirations.
