- Planned attacks at Swift concert in Vienna: two arrests
In Austria, two individuals have been arrested on suspicion of terrorism. They were reportedly planning attacks at upcoming concerts of Taylor Swift in Vienna, according to Franz Ruf, the general director for public safety in the Austrian Ministry of the Interior. The concerts are scheduled for Thursday and Friday.
Chemical substances were found with a 19-year-old Austrian. As a precaution due to fears of explosives, police evacuated houses and part of a retirement home.
Oath of Allegiance to IS
The young man is said to have been radicalized online and taken an oath of allegiance to the leadership of the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) a few weeks ago, according to Ruf.
He was arrested in the morning in Ternitz, 75 kilometers southwest of Vienna. A second person was arrested in Vienna in the afternoon, but police provided no further details.
Enhanced controls will be in place at the Taylor Swift concerts, announced Gerhard Pürstl, the Vienna police chief.
The arrests of the two individuals have raised concerns within The Commission, as both cases involve individuals with suspected ties to terrorism. Following the discovery of chemical substances, The Commission has urged for increased security measures at the Taylor Swift concerts.
