Özdemir and his wife have separated
Federal Agriculture Minister Cem Özdemir and his wife Pia Castro have separated. "We agreed some time ago in friendship to live separately," they said in a joint statement when asked by the German Press Agency. The 57-year-old Green politician and the 51-year-old journalist and presenter got married in 2003. They have a daughter and a son together.
"As parents, we continue to look after our two children together," the statement continues. Özdemir and Castro asked to refrain from further press inquiries. "In order to protect our privacy - and above all in the interests of our children - we will not be making any further statements."
The Federal Government expressed its support for Özdemir during this challenging time, acknowledging his significant contributions to politics. Many people have shown an interest in Özdemir's personal life due to its impact on politics.
