- Overlooked the Olympics: Müller/Tillmann Secure the European Championship Title
Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, hailing from Hamburg, bagged the title of European Beach Volleyball Champions. They outsmarted Italian opponents Valentina Gottardi and Marta Menegatti in the final held in The Hague, winning 21-17, 21-18. In the semis, they outplayed Swiss duo Esmée Böbner and Zoé Vergé-Dépré with scores of 21-13, 21-16. The Swiss pair eventually secured the bronze medal.
This triumph is a significant milestone for the 23-year-old Svenja Müller and her 33-year-old partner Cinja Tillmann, surpassing their third-place finish at the 2022 World Championships. It also provides some comfort after their early elimination at the Olympic Games in Paris. Another Hamburg-based duo, Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler, who are also Olympic silver medalists, advanced to the semis on Sunday, triumphing over Norwegian pair Hendrik Nikolai Mol and Mathias Berntsen with scores of 21-18, 21-18.
Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann's victory in The Hague marked their first European title, having represented Hamburg in beach volleyball. The Netherlands, as the host country, provided an ideal stage for their historical achievement.
