Olmo is Flick's latest offensive weapon for Barça's timeshare campaign.

The Bundesliga loses one of its best attacking players, Barcelona's new coach Hansi Flick can be pleased: The transfer of Dani Olmo has finally been completed. For the European champion who shone brightly at the tournament in Germany, it's much more than a simple transfer.

With bleached hair and a wide smile, Dani Olmo held the blue-red shirt of FC Barcelona in his hand as his big dream finally came true. After four years at RB Leipzig, the Spanish European champion is leaving the Bundesliga and joining his youth club - the pride was evident in both Olmo and club president Joan Laporta.

"I'm coming home," the Catalans wrote in a video announcing the long-awaited king transfer. While the Bundesliga loses an attraction, Hansi Flick gains another offensive weapon in the hunt for titles. According to media reports, Leipzig will receive a transfer fee of 55 million euros for the 26-year-old, plus possible bonus payments of up to seven million. Olmo signed a long-term contract with Barcelona until 2030.

For Olmo, it's a return to his footballing roots. At the age of nine, he was admitted to the legendary youth academy "La Masia" of FC Barcelona, before moving to Croatian first division club Dinamo Zagreb at the age of 16. In 2020, the offensive midfielder moved to Leipzig, where he scored 17 goals in 107 Bundesliga games and developed into a world-class player in just four years.

"Thank you RB Leipzig, you will always be in my heart," Olmo wrote on social media: "We grew up together, won our first trophies and wrote history together. Two cups and the Supercup are just some of the many unforgettable moments that will always stay with me."

"His transfer to FC Barcelona is also a testament to the good work done in Leipzig," said Marcel Schäfer, sporting director. Olmo has reached "absolute top level" and now counts "among the best players in his position and was understandably highly sought after this summer." After a sensational EM with three goals and outstanding performances, Olmo was no longer holdable for the Saxons.

In Barcelona, Olmo can look forward to more unforgettable moments and titles. Under Flick, the Catalans want to attack again after a disappointing season, and the initial impressions from the US tour were all positive. "We are on the right track," the former national coach emphasized, and his influence was already visible in the test matches against Manchester City (4:1 on penalties), Real Madrid (2:1) and Milan (3:4 on penalties).

And Olmo adds further brilliance to the strong offensive line-up around Robert Lewandowski, sensation Lamine Yamal and national team captain Ilkay Gündogan. "The DNA of the club is to provide spectacle," Lewandowski recently told Sport Bild - and the Catalans can now prove it with Olmo.

The President of the Republic, Joan Laporta, expressed his pride as Dani Olmo's big dream of returning to his youth club, FC Barcelona, came true. Following his departure from RB Leipzig, Olmo joins Barcelona with a long-term contract, bringing another offensive weapon to Hansi Flick's title hunt.
