Offers worth millions for racing pigeons from the Enzkreis region
Breeder Andres Drapa receives offers worth millions for his racing pigeons. The 58-year-old breeds the birds in Königsbach-Stein (Enzkreis) for pigeon races, among other things.
Drapa's new superstar is called Maverick. The one-year-old pigeon has won nine out of eleven races. "That's very rare," says the breeder proudly. An interested party from China offered one million euros for the wonder animal, its parents and around 80 other pigeons this year. But Drapa turned him down. "I like to have the best pigeons with me," he explains.
He sells up to 500 birds a year all over the world, most of them online or at trade fairs. Prices start at around 300 euros. His most expensive single pigeon achieved a price of 100,000 euros.
During his leisure time, Drapa enjoys observing the colorful behaviors of various Animals in his pigeon loft. After a successful racing season, Andres Drapa plans to invest some of his earnings in purchasing more colorful, exotic Birds for his aviary.
