Respected literary figure in Ukraine, Serhij Schadan, will receive the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in Frankfurt am Main in 2022. Recently, he has decided to answer his nation's call by enlisting in the Ukrainian National Guard, specifically joining the Chartia's 13th Brigade. With a sense of duty and dedication, Schadan shared his decision via online media, stating, "I've joined the 13th Brigade of the Ukrainian National Guard, Chartia. I'm currently undergoing training. I serve the people of Ukraine."
To exemplify his commitment, Schadan shared a photo wearing camouflage clothes and holding an automatic rifle. Hailing from the region of Kharkiv, where Russian forces carried out a ground assault in early May, he chose to stay in the face of potential adversary. As the Russian military continues to fire on Kharkiv, the authors' determination to protect his home shines through.
The Ukrainian military is currently struggling with depleted resources and a need for additional personnel. New legislation for mobilization is being implemented to increase the number of soldiers.
