Bundesliga 2 - Next failure: Kaiserslautern suddenly a relegation candidate

1. FC Kaiserslautern were unable to halt their losing streak in the final game of the first half of the 2nd Bundesliga season and are slipping deeper and deeper into the relegation battle. After a poor performance, the Palatinate side lost the basement duel at second-to-last-placed Eintracht Braunschweig 1:2 (1:1) on Sunday.

FCK took a deserved lead through an own goal by Robin Krauße in the 14th minute. However, the visitors only dominated the opening period in front of 20,627 spectators and then became far too passive. Rayan Philippe (36') and Johan Gomez (62') punished this with their goals.

After six defeats in a row, the Palatinate go into the winter break in 15th place with 18 points and just one point ahead of the relegation places. The cushion to the first direct relegation place, which Braunschweig are in, has shrunk to four points. "We're not getting it on the pitch at the moment. We'll have to work hard from January onwards," said FCK goalkeeper Julian Krahl.

The 23-year-old's disappointment was clear to see at the end of the game. His analysis was correspondingly drastic. "Braunschweig had three or four great chances after the break. We have to show a different face again. We let ourselves be pushed around like little children at times. That really gets on my nerves because I don't want us as 1. FC Kaiserslautern to act like that," Krahl grumbled.

Coach Dimitrios Grammozis was somewhat more objective in his summary. "In the first half, the game was still evenly divided. After the changeover, Eintracht were more aggressive in the tackles and created scoring chances as a result. We weren't in the game at all during this phase," criticized the 45-year-old.

In the final phase, the Red Devils threw everything forward once again and actually managed to equalize in stoppage time. However, the goal was disallowed for offside. "Overall, we didn't do enough to win this game," criticized Grammozis.
