Tech Billionaire Elon Musk Renews Lawsuit Against ChatGPT Developer OpenAI

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has reignited his feud with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, by filing a new lawsuit. Musk had previously dropped a similar lawsuit in June.

In his latest complaint, Musk alleges that OpenAI co-founder Sam Altman and his "accomplices" deceived him into investing in the startup under false pretenses. Musk's lawyers describe the alleged actions as "perfidy and fraud on a Shakespearean scale." OpenAI has not yet responded to Musk's new claims.

Previous Lawsuit Dropped

In February, Musk had sued OpenAI, accusing it of violating their founding agreement. He argued that the company, which he co-founded in 2015, had deviated from its mission to be a non-profit organization dedicated to beneficial AI research. OpenAI countered that there was no formal agreement to breach. Musk later withdrew this lawsuit before the first hearing, with U.S. experts giving it little chance of success.

Conspiracy to Defraud?

Musk's lawyer, Marc Toberoff, told the "New York Times" that the previous lawsuit was toothless, but the new one is much stronger. At its core, the lawsuit alleges a conspiracy to defraud Musk.

ChatGPT, a AI chatbot developed by OpenAI, sparked unprecedented hype in AI last year, with expectations ranging from seemingly limitless digital possibilities to fears of human extinction. These AI chatbots are trained on vast amounts of data and can generate text at a human-like level. The principle behind them is that they predict word by word how a sentence should continue.

Musk's current lawsuit against OpenAI, as stated by his lawyer Marc Toberoff, is a more substantial claim compared to the previous one, alleging a conspiracy to defceive him. The OpenAI, the same organization that developed the widely popular AI chatbot ChatGPT, is yet to respond to these allegations.

Despite dropping his initial lawsuit against OpenAI in June, Tech Billionaire Elon Musk continues to have issues with the company, now accusing them of perpetrating fraud in their dealings with him.
