- More congested roads and traffic delays witnessed during summer vacation periods compared to 2023.
During the seven weekend breaks of this year's summer holidays, North Rhine-Westphalia experienced longer and more extensive traffic delays compared to the previous year. The length of these delays expanded by 14%, reaching almost 10,000 kilometers. Moreover, the duration of these hold-ups extended beyond 16% and clocked in at around 6,050 hours across the holiday weekends, as stated in the ADAC's summer traffic report released on Monday.
This escalation can be attributed to construction sites and complete highway closures on major routes like the A1, A3, and A40. Additionally, there was an increase in transit traffic from tourists traveling through North Rhine-Westphalia due to the holidays in other federal states.
The A3 strip between Cologne and Oberhausen, the A42 between Kamp-Lintfort and Dortmund (weigh station with barriers at Bottrop/Essen), and the A2 between Dortmund and Oberhausen were identified as the most congested highway sections in North Rhine-Westphalia. Yet, according to the ADAC, no major traffic disruptions, not even during the heavily trafficked weekend of August 16-18, were reported.
The ongoing traffic issues in North Rhine-Westphalia were exacerbated by increased tourist travel on major routes within the state, such as the A1, A3, and A40. Despite these challenges, no significant traffic disruptions were reported on the congested A3 strip between Cologne and Oberhausen during the summer holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia.
