Mitigating suspect in Gilgo Beach murders probable to be incriminated in the extermination of two more women, informants assert.
A past New York architect, recently detained in July, faces charges related to the murders of four women who have now been labeled as the "Gilgo Four." The authorities don't hold back, stating that these issues are also associated with two other victims, Jessica Taylor and Valerie Mack, and sprung from the enlargement of the search into the subject following the previous July arrest. The arrest was a source of essential stir, captivating question-raising if the police had ultimately caught the feared serial killer in Gilgo Beach, responsible for a series of unsolved murders spanning decades.
At least 11 sets of human remains have surfaced in Suffolk County, Long Island, featuring the four women Heuermann is being charged with taking lives: Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes. In 2023, Heuermann was charged with three deaths and Brainard-Barnes's murder in January. He pleaded not guilty to all said charges and is being kept without bail. His lawyer, Michael Brown, introduced to the press in January that Heuermann is certain of his innocence and is preparing to contest the allegations.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's office announced that, indeed, Heuermann would be in court on Thursday.
"Numerous necessary investigative moves had to be taken," District Attorney Raymond Tierney said Monday at some non-related news conference. "On Thursday, you will see the outcomes of that investigation."
CNN affiliate WABC disclosed that the authorities had been poking about Long Island's Manorville and North Sea in relation to this case this year. It is mentioned that the Gilgo Beach sufferers Taylor and Mack were found in Manorville according to the police.
Mack was a 24-year-old Philadelphia mother who vanished more than two decades ago and was discovered years later with fragments of her body. Police stated that Taylor's fragments turned up back in 2003.
Lawyer John Ray, taking care of Taylor's family, specified in the past he didn't know about Heuermann's possible link to Taylor's plight.
WABC also emphasized the bones of 28-year-old Sandra Costilla were found in North Sea in 1993.
"An ocean of evidence"
Following Heuermann's arrest last year, officials insisted the probe had many more stages to go. They focused their attention on his residential residence in Massapequa, where he'd lived undisturbed with his spouse, daughter, and stepson for years.
Searching the home in July, officers utilized police dogs and radars to inspect the ground thoroughly. It was discovered that they unearthed roughly 280 firearms there, emphasized as more than 40 of them are illegally possessed, they stated.
Authorities also took a closer look at his properties in Las Vegas and South Carolina.
Tierney notified reporters last summer that officers worked with "an ocean of evidence."
Not long ago, the Massapequa residence was searched once more by police. Boxes were seen leaving the house. Robert Macedonia, a lawyer representing Heuermann's estranged wife Asa Ellerup, also revealed that police had a warrant for the examination.
Ellerup's divorce process was underway only a couple of days following Heuermann's arrest last year, but she continues to meet with him at least weekly, as stated by a March declaration circulated by her legal representatives. She expressed firm convictions that Heuermann was innocent, adding her sympathies extended to the victims and their relatives. "No one deserves to die in that fashion," Ellerup added.
CNN’s Mark Morales, Emma Tucker, and Jean Casarez covered these events.
