Weather - Meteorologist: No north German winter fairytale in sight
The chances of a white Christmas in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein are slim. Although the temperatures on Christmas Eve could be around zero degrees, none of the snow or sleet showers that are possible then will remain, said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service in Hamburg on Sunday. During the day, temperatures would reach four to five degrees on Sunday and Monday. "There's no winter Christmas fairytale in sight," said the meteorologist. At least the cloud cover should not be completely closed, so that the sun may come through from time to time. However, more precise forecasts will not be possible until the middle of the week.
Northern Germans can still expect stormy days before the festivities. On Thursday and Friday, the storm could be more severe with gale-force winds, especially on the North Sea coast, said the meteorologist. Storm surges could also become an issue. According to the forecast by the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency, the waters of the Elbe are expected to rise above the storm surge mark in Hamburg on Friday. The storm could also affect the infrastructure, said the meteorologist with a view to travel shortly before Christmas.
