Meng Meng, the female panda at the Berlin Zoo, is pregnant again.

"Despite the excitement, we must acknowledge that this is still a very early stage of pregnancy, and a process called resorption - essentially, the embryo dying - is still possible at this point," cautioned veterinarian Franziska Sutter. The zoo is hoping that everything will go as smoothly as it did in 2019.

Five years ago, Meng Meng gave birth to twins Pit and Paule at the Berlin Zoo, marking the first panda offspring in Germany.

In March 2024, the zoo performed another artificial insemination on the panda lady. The pregnancy could only be confirmed now because the typical egg dormancy in giant pandas can prevent immediate implantation of the fertilized egg. The pregnancy will only continue and the embryo will start growing when certain environmental conditions are favorable, as the zoo in the capital announced.

The Berlin Zoo, where Meng Meng gave birth to twins in 2019, is anxiously awaiting the outcome of the latest artificial insemination procedure performed on the panda lady.Should the pregnancy progress, it would inspire hope of another successful birth at the Berlin Zoo.
