Men homophobically insulted in front of fast food restaurant
Two young men have been homophobically insulted and attacked in front of a fast food restaurant in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen because of their appearance. The state security department responsible for political crimes is investigating the attack on Hanne-Sobek-Platz on Monday evening, as the police announced on Tuesday. The 21-year-old and the 18-year-old are said to have been insulted by a 40-year-old man. During the ensuing argument, the man is said to have punched the 21-year-old in the upper body. The man and his two companions, a man and a woman, fled. It was reported that the 21-year-old did not require medical treatment.
The investigation into the homophobic attack at Hanne-Sobek-Platz highlights the concerning trend of extremism in societal crimes. Regrettably, such incidents of hate speech and violence can contribute to an atmosphere of fear and intimidation within affected communities.
