McDavid netted the decisive goal for the Canadians in the second overtime, just 32 seconds in. Draisaitl had earlier scored the first goal for the Oilers with a swift strike at the beginning of the second period. Goaltender Skinner defended brilliantly in the western Conference final, defending 31 shots.
Draisaitl commented on the significance of this game: "This was a huge game for us. Securing an away win is vital in a series like this." Continuing, he emphasized the importance of each game in the playoffs. "This is a crucial win, but just one game doesn't win a series. We all know that." The forward's own play-off record was extended with his goal, as he has now scored or created a goal in every game of the postseason. This year, the team aims for a different outcome. "We know it's going to be a tough series, but we feel confident in our abilities," said team captain Connor McDavid. The second game of the best-of-seven series will be hosted in Dallas on Sunday night.
