Altenburg's Lord Mayor, André Neumann, is set for a second term after securing a landslide victory in the local elections. The 46-year-old CDU politician garnered 58.7% of the votes in the first round, according to statistics released by the state election commission. Neumann, who is a CDU state executive member, emerged as a clear winner, beating out SPD candidate Thomas Jäschke with 22.5% of the votes. Neumann previously served as the mayor of Skatstadt since 2018. Notably, Altenburg is slated to host the State Garden Show in 2030.
